Police Report - Thomas Grason Fisher
Transcription of 1858 Police Gazette, NSW:
DISTRICT OF WEE WAA
Absconded from the hired service of Charles Wentworth Bucknell of Mogyer, on the 10th day of June, two men of the following description:-
Thomas G. Fisher, 23 years, 5 ft 9 inches, light complexion, pearl on right eye, as the appearance ofa sailor.
William Wilson.. .......Warrants issed PDS.5 reward for each. Information received at this office on the 10th instant
Even though he was not a convict, he had left the service of a Mr Bucknell, and along with William Wilson, Thomas obviously left the Wee Waa area before the job was completed. Absconding from the service of an organisation you work for is still something that happens today. When someone just does not turn up for work again, they are considered to have abandoned their employment. We no longer put a price on their heads however!
